FG to launch National Values Charter for moral and ethical reawakening in Nigeria
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has announced the ministry’s readiness to implement the National Values Charter as part of President Bola Tinubu‘s commitment to fostering moral, ethical, and cultural reawakening in Nigeria.
The initiative aims to instil the right values, attitudes, and perspectives nationwide.
Speaking on Wednesday in Abuja during the opening of the expanded retreat of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Idris stated that the National Values Charter is designed to ensure that all Nigerians are fully aware of their rights and protections under the constitution, as well as the obligations of the government to its citizens.
He said the initiative also seeks to educate Nigerians on their responsibilities towards each other, the government, and the country as a whole.
According to him, the Charter is structured around two key objectives: Citizens’ Rights and Government Obligations and Citizens’ Responsibilities.
Idris emphasized that the initiative is a crucial step in building a nation where mutual respect and love between citizens and the country is deepened.
He expressed confidence that the program would strengthen national unity and inclusiveness.
He also praised the Director-General of the NOA, Mr. Lanre Issa-Onilu, for integrating modern technology into the agency’s operations.
He noted that under Issa-Onilu’s leadership, the NOA has leveraged digital tools, including “The Mobiliser” app and an Artificial Intelligence platform, to enhance civic awareness and public engagement.
“The NOA has become one of the most technology-compliant agencies in Nigeria today, taking the lead in the deployment of digital tools and technologies for civic awareness and engagement,” Idris said.
The Minister concluded by describing the retreat as an opportunity to further refine the agency’s vision and redouble its efforts in advancing Nigeria’s future through public orientation.
Meanwhile, in a bid to strengthen efforts to regain Nigeria’s national values, Issa-Onilu recently a courtesy visit to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) headquarters in Abuja.
The visit aimed to forge a partnership focused on behavioural reorientation for Nigerian citizens, particularly in youth engagement, leadership values, and citizen codes of conduct.
During the visit, Issa-Onilu emphasized the importance of collaboration among key stakeholders to drive a nationwide campaign for value reorientation.
