FG Data Shows Northwest Leads with ₦5.97 Trillion in Road Projects

The Federal Government of Nigeria has unveiled details of ongoing infrastructure projects across the country, with a combined value running into several trillions of naira, signalling what it described as an “unprecedented commitment to balanced regional development.”

According to the data released on Sunday by the State House, the Northwest region tops the list with projects worth ₦5.97 trillion, including major highways such as the Sokoto–Gusau–Funtua–Zaria Road (275km, ₦824bn), the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano Road (350km, ₦764bn), and the BUA Tax Credit Road (Jigawa/Katsina/Kano, 256km). Other key projects include the Kano Northern Bypass (49km), Kaduna–Katsina Roads (₦150bn), and segments of the Kano–Maiduguri Road (100.9km).

In the North Central, projects valued at ₦1.13 trillion are underway. These include the Benue–9th Mile Road (250km, $958m), the Lokoja–Okene Dualisation (86km), and the Lokoja–Benin Dualisation (₦167bn), which links the region with the South.

The Northeast is witnessing projects worth ₦400 billion, notably the Damaturu–Maiduguri Road (110km), Bama and Dikwa Roads (100km), and the Kolmani Oil Wells development in Bauchi and Gombe States.

In the Southwest (excluding Lagos), ongoing works are valued at ₦604 billion, including the Lagos–Ibadan Road (8.5km, ₦33bn), Lagos–Sagamu Dualisation (12km), and rehabilitation of iconic bridges such as the Carter, Third Mainland, and Eko Bridges (₦120bn). The Oyo–Ogbomoso–Ilorin Road (₦146bn) is also part of the region’s flagship projects.

The Southeast is allocated ₦407 billion, with highlights including the Enugu–Onitsha Road (107km, ₦202bn via MTN tax credit), another stretch of the Enugu–Onitsha Road (72km, ₦150bn via CBC), the Enugu–Abakaliki Road (36km), and the 2nd Niger Bridge Access Road (17.5km, ₦175bn).

For the South-South region, projects worth ₦2.41 trillion are ongoing. Key investments include the Eleme–Onne Road (30km, ₦156bn), the Bodo–Bonny Road with 12 bridges in Rivers State (₦200bn), the East–West Road Section 2 (₦186bn), the Nembe–Brass Road (₦150bn), and the 2nd Niger Bridge Access Road in Delta (17km, ₦146bn).

The government emphasised that these projects are designed not only to improve road networks and connectivity but also to boost economic integration, enhance security, and create jobs across the six geopolitical zones.

“This is the equity of Renewed Hope. No Nigerian is second-class, no region is left behind. Together we will rise as one nation, one people, and one destiny,” the statement noted.
