EPL Weekend Round-Up: Arsenal Held by 10-Man Chelsea, Liverpool Back on Track

The Premier League title race continues to intensify as leaders Arsenal were held to a 1-1 draw by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, while Liverpool returned to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over West Ham. The weekend also saw Manchester United, Brighton, and Aston Villa claim vital wins in their respective fixtures.

Arsenal held by 10-man Chelsea

Arsenal’s unbeaten start to the season remains intact at 13 matches, but their five-point lead at the top of the table was tested by a resilient Chelsea side. The Blues were reduced to 10 men in the first half when Moises Caicedo was shown a red card following a VAR review for a foul on Mikel Merino.

Despite being a man down, Chelsea started the second half brightly, with Trevoh Chalobah scoring just 150 seconds after the restart to give the home side the lead. Arsenal, however, responded on the hour mark when Merino found the net, securing a vital point for the Gunners and keeping them in control of the title race.

Liverpool back to winning ways

After a rocky start to the season, Liverpool returned to winning form with a 2-0 victory over West Ham in London. Alexander Isak scored his first Premier League goal for the Reds since his summer move from Newcastle, while the team delivered a dominant performance even with Mohamed Salah on the bench. The win helps Liverpool stabilise their campaign following a difficult start, during which they suffered nine defeats in 12 matches – their worst run since 1954.

Manchester United come from behind

Manchester United bounced back from an early setback to defeat Crystal Palace 2-1. The win moves Erik ten Hag’s side back into the top six, keeping them in contention for a Champions League spot next season.

Other Premier League action

Brighton & Hove Albion defeated Nottingham Forest 2-0 away, strengthening their position in the top half of the table.

Aston Villa edged Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-0 in a tight contest at Villa Park.

Looking ahead

The weekend’s results have tightened the competition at both ends of the table. Arsenal remain unbeaten but dropped crucial points, Liverpool are building momentum, and Manchester United have reasserted themselves in the top six. With the season still in its early stages, fans can expect more drama as the Premier League campaign intensifies.
