EPL: It’s embarrassing – Ian Wright blasts Chelsea over decision on midfielder

Arsenal legend, Ian Wright, has slammed Chelsea over their ’embarrassing’ decision to give midfielder Enzo Fernandez the captaincy just a month after the Argentina international was at the centre of a racism storm.

Fernandez wore the captain’s armband during Chelsea’s opening Premier League 2-0 defeat to Manchester City at Stamford Bridge last Sunday.

He led Enzo Maresca’s side against the Cityzens as captain Reece James was suspended for the clash.

Speaking on the Wright’s House podcast, Wright said: “Chelsea man, oh my god. Fix up yourselves. What are they doing?

“There is no way that man [Fernandez] deserves the captaincy. It’s embarrassing.”
