Enugu Senator Laments Manipulation Of Youth By Politicians

The senator representing Enugu North Senatorial Zone of Enugu State in the National Assembly, Sen Okey Ezea, Tuesday, called on the Nigerian youth to be vibrant and avoid falling to the antics of some politicians bent on manipulating them for their political gains.

Sen Ezea stated this when a delegation from the National Youth Assembly of Nigeria, led by the Speaker of the Enugu State chapter, Amb Fidelis Ugwu, visited him in Nsukka.

The speaker was accompanied by the assembly’s Deputy Chief Whip, Gabriel U. Odi; Hon Chinemerem Thomas Asogwa, representing Enugu North Senatorial District at the Nigerian Youth Parliament, National Assembly Complex, Abuja; and Hon Ogbonna Sylvester Ezeh, representing Enugu East Senatorial District in the same assembly.

This was contained in a release issued by Senator Ezea’s Special Assistant, Media, Mike Okenwa, which was made available to THE WHISTLER in Enugu.

According to the release, “Senator Ezea lamented the growing trend of young people yielding to the manipulative antics of self-serving politicians, who exploit their energy and ideals for narrow political ends. He urged the youth leaders to rise above such influences, lead by example, and remain steadfast in the pursuit of truth, justice, and equity.”

The senator, in the release, recalled “the vibrancy of youth engagement in Nigeria during the 1980s, a time when youthful ambition held great promise”, and expressed concerns that “those glory days appear to have faded before our very eyes”.

He however encouraged the young leaders “not to lose hope but to remain resolute in their commitment to making a meaningful difference, even in the face of current challenges”.

Senator Ezea also endorsed the forthcoming Youth Assembly Summit scheduled to hold in Enugu on 3rd July 2025, pledging his continued support for the organization, “as long as it remains focused and committed to the principles of justice and fair play”.

The assembly speaker, responding, thanked Senator Ezea for the numerous constituency projects he had attracted to his constituents, as well as for endorsing the forthcoming youth submit in Enugu.
