Executive Chairman of Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State, Hon Michael Ogalla

The Executive Chairman of Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State, Hon Michael Ogalla, has directed that no charges be imposed on artisans involved in palm produce, such as palm wine and palm oil sellers.

The council chairman stated this in a statement issued by his Special Assistant (Media and Publicity), Chinecherem Godswill Eze, which was made available to newsmen at Ogrute on Monday.

The release stated that, “Any individual or group found demanding payment from these artisans will be dealt with in accordance with the law.”

It advised artisans involved in the sale of palm wine and palm oil to report “any such unlawful demands to the relevant authorities immediately”.

Hon Ogara had a few months ago introduced burial levies which attracted condemnation from the people of the LGA and beyond.

He, however, later suspended the collection of the burial levies. He consequently inaugurated a committee to review the entire tax system in the LGA.

THE WHISTLER reports that people of Igboeze North LGA are reportedly the highest producers of high-quality palm wine in Enugu State.
