Elon Musk weighs in on US economy at Trump rally
Elon Musk took the stage at a campaign event for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on October 17, where he addressed a variety of political and economic issues.
In his first solo appearance supporting Trump, Musk voiced concerns about the state of the U.S. economy and offered his ideas for recovery, while remaining noncommittal about taking on a formal role in government.
Speaking to a crowd at a Pennsylvania high school auditorium, Musk criticized the government’s “staggering” levels of wasteful spending, blaming it for many of the country’s economic challenges.
He emphasized the need for greater fiscal responsibility, calling the current use of taxpayer funds a “misuse.”
Musk’s comments focused heavily on the national deficit, border security, and voter integrity, as he sought to position Trump as the more economically viable candidate.
One of the more lighthearted moments of the event came when an audience member asked about Musk potentially leading a newly proposed Department of Government Efficiency, or “DOGE.”
Musk responded with a simple “Yeah, DOGE,” but skillfully avoided confirming any plans to take on the role if Trump wins in November.
The idea was first floated in an August interview, where Trump suggested Musk could serve as an advisor if he were elected president.
Musk later shared a humorous post on social media, hinting at the idea, but he has yet to formally commit to any government position.
Musk’s support for Trump has extended beyond speeches, as he has created a pro-Trump political action committee (PAC) called America PAC, aiming to register 800,000 new voters in key swing states.
The billionaire has also contributed $75 million to the PAC, further cementing his involvement in the 2024 presidential race.
Despite his increasing political activity, it remains unclear whether Musk will take on a formal government role if Trump wins.
