Electric Aerospace Company, Beta Technologies, Launches First Passenger Carrying Aircraft

Burlington, Vermont-based BETA Technologies, an electric aerospace startup, has released a sneak peek at its fixed-wing and VTOL ALIA aircraft idea for passenger use.
Kyle Clark, BETA’s founder and CEO confirmed the development in a press release.
As per the statement, unlike other companies in the sector, the Vermont-based firm is approaching electric aviation a little differently and more subtly.
To date, it has raised over $860 million in equity from major players including Amazon’s The Climate Pledge.
After launching its freight and medical variant into operation as early as 2025, the business intends to put its passenger aircraft into service.
The company’s passenger-focused ALIA aircraft is built to comfortably seat five people including a pilot, and its spacious cabin provides enough room for both carry-on luggage and TSA-secured bags.
“At BETA, we see electric aviation technology as transcending one single mission set,” said Clark.
“We designed ALIA to be a versatile platform that has tons of capability across sectors, and now we’re starting to step into that vision. With their high dispatch rate and low maintenance and operational energy costs, our electric passenger aircraft will unlock new routes for operators, further increasing the size of the pie.”
Newsng gathered that United Therapeutics, UPS, Air New Zealand, and the U.S. Air Force are just a few of the defence, freight transportation, and medical logistics companies that Beta has signed up so far.
The company plans to enter these areas by 2025. Clients like Archer depend on Beta’s charging network, which includes over 50 ongoing sites and 34 operational sites.
Blade, the company’s first passenger client, placed an order for up to 20 of BETA’s eVTOL in 2021 with financial backing.
Since then, Helijet has placed a formal order for four eVTOLs with an option for four more, to use them for both cargo and passenger mission sets.
LCI has stated that it will be using BETA’s aircraft to transport passengers to the Aria Hotels in Greece.
