Egypt End Cote d’Ivoire’s Title Defence in AFCON Quarterfinal Shock

Defending champions Côte d’Ivoire have been eliminated from the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations after a dramatic 3–2 quarterfinal defeat to Egypt in Morocco.
The Pharaohs secured their place in the semifinals following an enthralling contest on Saturday, with captain Mohamed Salah scoring the decisive goal in a pulsating encounter that lived up to its billing.
The victory sends Egypt through to a last-four clash in Tangier, where they will face Senegal on Wednesday in a high-stakes rematch of the 2021 AFCON final, which Senegal won.
Côte d’Ivoire, which lifted the trophy at the last edition on home soil, bowed out of the competition, confirming that a new African champion will be crowned in the coming days.
The other semifinal will see the Super Eagles of Nigeria take on host nation Morocco, setting up an exciting finish to the tournament. The winners of both semifinals will meet in the final next Sunday.
