The Edo State Government has announced plans to recruit more qualified teachers for public schools across the state.

Governor Monday Okpebholo disclosed this during an inspection of ongoing renovations in some schools in Edo Central.

According to the Governor, the state government is working to improve learning facilities, provide good infrastructure, create a conducive learning atmosphere, and ensure secure school environments.

He added that the administration has put modalities in place to ensure public schools compete favourably with private schools in terms of quality facilities and affordability.

Okpebholo, “School renovations are going on across the three Senatorial Districts in Edo State. After this, more qualified teachers will be employed to ensure our children get quality education. As a government, we are working to ensure we restore quality in our education system and ensure it is affordable.

“Our goal as a government is to see every Edo child attend a public school and get quality education that will woo more people to embrace public schools. My administration is working to ensure the education system in the State competes favourably with global standards.”

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Fred Itua, noted that the governor’s pledge was part of the administration’s efforts to transform the education sector, which he declared a state of emergency upon assuming office.

According to the statement, many public schools in the state have already benefited from the administration’s infrastructural development initiatives, with new structures, including classrooms and perimeter fences, being constructed to ensure student safety.
