Ebonyi: Nwifuru suspends another commissioner over alleged gross misconduct
Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru has suspended the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Uchenna Igwe, over alleged gross misconduct.
Nwifuru made the disclosure during a press conference held at the New Government House, Centenary City, Abakaliki.
The governor said the commissioner was suspended due to his inability to take into cognisance the directive to address the demand made by civil servants at the local government level for payment of gratuities as at when due.
He explained that his administration had since implemented the autonomy of the local government system, adding that the allocation from Federal Allocation Account goes straight to the councils’ account.
Nwifuru also said he is not aware of the alleged charge of payment of ‘two thousand one hundred naira’ for the audit of local government workers.
He said that investigation would be carried out to ensure that drastic measures are taken to address the allegations.
