Easter: Sokoto CAN Urges Government To End Bloodshed, Kidnappings
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Sokoto State Chapter, has called for unity among Christians and urged the government to end the ongoing bloodshed and kidnappings in the state and across the country.
Speaking at the 2025 Easter Praise and Prayer Celebration Sunday night which extended to Monday morning, the Chairman of CAN, Rev. Moses Kayode James, emphasized the need for stronger unity among Christians, transcending denominational and ethnic differences.
He called on all denominations, tribes, and generations to come together in prayer and worship.
“Today, we gather not merely to celebrate, but for spiritual renewal, unity, and intercession. We unite across denominations, tribes, and tongues to raise our voices in praise and lift our hands in prayer.
“We pray for peace in our land, for the safety and well-being of every citizen. We pray for wisdom for our leaders, healing for the brokenhearted, and we call forth peace, righteousness, justice, revival, and unity among our communities.”
Rev. James urged the government to provide adequate security for all citizens, stressing that security is both a necessity and a fundamental right.
He said the government’s primary responsibility is to protect the lives and property of the people, and any administration that fails in this regard is ineffective.
He expressed deep concern over the state of insecurity in Nigeria, especially in states such as Plateau, Benue, Taraba, Sokoto, Edo, and Borno, where lives are being lost daily.
He urged the government to intensify efforts toward restoring peace and ending the bloodshed.
“Our people are living in fear, while we continue to pray for peace, I also call on the government to provide adequate security.
“Security is a necessity, it is our right. Nigerians are entitled to live freely and safely wherever they find themselves.
“It is the duty of every responsible government to protect the lives and property of its citizens. Any government that fails to achieve this is ineffective.
“Therefore, I urge the government to take its responsibilities seriously and strive for peace, even as we continue to pray for it.”
The CAN chairman also commended those who contributed to the success of the Easter celebration and urged Christians to activate the power of the resurrection for the peace of Sokoto State and the healing of the nation.
