Death Toll Rises To 3 In Ebonyi Crash

The death toll from an auto crash in Uburu, Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State has climbed to three.

Officials of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Enugu Operations Office, in collaboration with Ebonyi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), visited the injured victims at David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences (DUFUHS).

NEMA made this known via its official X page on Wednesday, following an auto crash on April 15.

The joint team was received by the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Professor (Mrs.) Uzoma Agwu, who expressed appreciation for the show of concern and swift response by both state and federal authorities.

She commended the timely intervention that has helped stabilise several victims, with many now discharged.

Representing the Head of NEMA Enugu Operations Office, Mrs. Ngozi Echeazu, was Mrs. Shantel Chukwu, who lauded the prompt coordination by community members, doctors, and nurses in managing the incident.

She conveyed the sympathies of NEMA’s Director General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, to the victims and assured them of the Agency’s sustained commitment to supporting disaster-affected communities.

The visit included a tour of the wards where the injured passengers are receiving care.

The post read, “The Head of NEMA’s Enugu Operations office, Mrs. Ngozi Echeazu who was represented by Mrs Shantel Chukwu commended the good coordination of the community members, doctors and nurses in managing the incident.

“During the visit, Mrs Shantel conveyed the sympathies of NEMA’s Director General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, and further assured the injured persons of the Agency’s commitment to supporting disaster affected population.

“The death toll has increased to three (3) while scores of the injured have been stabilised and discharged”.

The hospital authorities confirmed that while three lives have been lost, most of the remaining victims have shown remarkable recovery.
