Two more dead bodies have been recovered at the site of a building collapse that occurred on Tuesday at Otta Ona Junction, near the Mobil Filling Station bus stop, in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.

THE WHISTLER earlier reported that one person died while nine others were rescued alive after the two-storey building under construction collapsed.

The incident happened around 2:00 p.m, prompting emergency response.

The recovered bodies were those trapped beneath the rubble. The two additional bodies were recovered overnight during search and rescue operation at the incident scene.

Confirming this on Wednesday, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said the victims includes two males and a teenager.

“Three bodies have been recovered so far,” he said. “These include two adult males and a teenage female.”

Search and rescue efforts by emergency responders are still ongoing as at the time of filing this report.

While the exact cause of the collapse has yet to be determined, the incident has raised fresh concerns about construction standards and building approvals in Lagos.

Present at the scene supporting the rescue operation include personnel from LASEMA, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Nigeria Police Force, and the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), and Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
