The petrol-producing unit at Nigeria’s 650,000 barrel-per-day Dangote refinery has been taken offline due to catalyst leaks and other technical issues.
The repairs are expected to last at least two weeks, Reuters reported on Wednesday.
The refinery’s 204,000 bpd Residue Fluidised Catalytic Cracking Unit, RFCCU, has been shut since August 29, according to industry monitor IIR Energy.
According to the report, two sources familiar with the matter confirmed the development but requested anonymity.
Dangote, however, was yet to comment on the development.
The $20 billion facility, which began operations last year, has rapidly increased output, reshaping global oil and fuel trade flows.
Its first exports of petrol to the United States are expected to arrive in New York later this month, ship-tracking data from Kpler indicated.
