The Nigeria Customs Service, on Friday, announced the deployment of the Electronic Currency Declaration Form (e-CDF) at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

The NCS spokesman, Abdullahi Maiwada, revealed that the pilot which began on April 9, 2025, is part of ongoing digital transformation efforts aimed at reinforcing border security and improving transparency in financial disclosures.

The NCS developed the e-CDF platform to meet international standards on anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-financing of terrorism (CFT).

The platform also delivers real-time data to support intelligence sharing and inter-agency cooperation.

Maiwada said, “The system demonstrated a more secure, efficient, and accountable procedure for travellers engaged in cross-border currency movements”.

He added that during the pilot phase, “e-CDF recorded 69 transactions in total. Outbound declarations comprised 51 transactions with a total declared sum of $1,200,281.22. Inbound transactions accounted for 18 declarations, amounting to $177,786.88.

“Following the pilot’s success, the Service plans to extend the e-CDF system to additional international airports and border locations across Nigeria.”

The NCS said it will continue to embrace technology to strengthen compliance, facilitate legitimate travel and trade, and maintain border integrity.
