Cross River Commissioner For Tourism Passes Away
The Cross River State Commissioner for Tourism and Culture, Hon. Abubakar Robert Ewa, is dead.
Ewa, who was in his sixties, died on Wednesday evening in a private medical facility after participating in the State Executive Council meeting, where he contributed to the proceedings and later excused himself from the meeting.
According to Governor Bassey Otu, the late commissioner was a dedicated public servant and a passionate advocate for the state’s tourism and culture sectors.
Otu expressed deep shock and sorrow over the passing of the commissioner, saying
He had contributed to developing the state’s tourism industry, including attracting investments to tourist sites.
“The state has lost a valuable asset; his dedication to serving our people and his commitment to promoting the rich cultural heritage of our state will be greatly missed,” Governor Otu said
In a statement by Gill Nsa, Chief Press Secretary, the governor extended his condolences to the bereaved family, friends, and colleagues of the late commissioner.
The late Ewa had served the state in various capacities: as secretary and later chairman of the Boki Local Government Council.
He also served as Special Adviser on Community Relations and Secretary of the Anti-Deforestation Task Force before he was appointed Commissioner of Tourism and Culture in August 2023.
The family will announce the funeral arrangements.
