The Concerned Nigerians Group has accused the Department of State Services (DSS) of abducting the president of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Mr. Atiku Abubakar Isah.

The group on Wednesday issued a strong condemnation following the alleged abduction and called for prosecution of operatives who allegedly brutalized Isah.

In a statement signed by the group’s convener, Raphael Adebayo, the organization accused the DSS of violently assaulting Mr. Isah after he allegedly rejected a bribe purportedly offered to co-opt him into supporting what the group described as the “criminal and illegitimate regime” of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The group described the reported attack as “indefensible” and “bestial,” demanding the immediate dismissal and prosecution of the officers involved.

They also urged the DSS Director General, Mr. Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, to launch a swift and transparent investigation into the incident.

“No citizen of Nigeria should be subjected to such violence by state security agents without consequence,” the statement read.

The group further expressed solidarity with Mr. Isah, commending his stance against what it termed the “cultism and political commercialization” that has allegedly plagued NANS in recent years.

They lamented what they described as the moral decay within the organization, contrasting it with the activist legacy of Nigerian student movements.

Concerned Nigerians also called on both the DSS and the Nigeria Police Force to hold a joint press conference, providing assurances of Mr. Isah’s safety and reaffirming his right to speak out.

They warned of dire consequences should any harm come to him or his supporters, placing full responsibility on the country’s security institutions and President Tinubu’s administration.

Neither the DSS nor the presidency has responded to the allegations as of the time of filing this report.
