Community Honours Sokoto Hospital Medical Director For Transformative Leadership
The outgoing Medical Director of the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Kware, Professor Shehu Sale, has been honoured with the traditional title of ‘Zaruman Kware’ by the District Head of Kware, Alhaji Muhammadu Dan’iya, in recognition of his exceptional service and developmental strides in the hospital and the wider community.
The conferment ceremony took place on Saturday night in Kware, coinciding with the end of Prof. Sale’s tenure as head of the hospital.
Speaking at the event, Alhaji Dan’iya described Prof. Sale as “a visionary leader whose commitment to service has left an indelible mark on both the hospital and the community.”
“The title of Zaruman Kware is a symbol of honour and appreciation. It is being conferred for the first time in our chiefdom, which speaks to the uniqueness of Prof. Sale’s contributions,” Dan’iya said.
“He facilitated massive infrastructure upgrades, improved healthcare delivery, empowered our youths, and initiated vital community programmes such as the provision of potable water.”
The district head urged the honouree to continue fostering unity and community development in his future endeavours.
In his response, Prof. Sale expressed heartfelt gratitude to the traditional ruler and the people of Kware for the honour.
“I am humbled by this recognition. Kware has become a second home to me,” he said.
“My work here was not just administrative. I lived among the people, served with sincerity, and together we achieved meaningful progress. This title will only inspire me to do more for the society and the nation at large.”
Prof. Sale also underscored the importance of traditional institutions in grassroots development, pledging to remain a partner in advancing the welfare of the Kware community.
“Traditional rulers are pivotal in driving local development. I look forward to continued collaboration with leaders and stakeholders to sustain the momentum we’ve built,” he added.
The event drew dignitaries from across the country, including the former Deputy Governor of Zamfara State, Senator Hassan Nasiha, who praised the district head for recognising Sale’s impact.
“This is a well-deserved honour. Prof. Sale’s leadership serves as a shining example of public service driven by passion and integrity,” Nasiha said. “Such recognition is not only a reward but also a motivation for continued service to humanity.”
Also present were the Vice Chairman of Kware Local Government, Alhaji Muhammad Umar, the Wazirin Sokoto, Prof. Sambo Wali-Junaid, government officials, family members, and members of the hospital’s staff.
Meanwhile, the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Salako, who visited the hospital earlier in the week, commissioned several landmark projects completed under Prof. Sale’s administration.
These include a Molecular Laboratory, an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), a Regional Women and Children Drug Dependency Treatment Centre, an Accident and Emergency Centre, a Multipurpose Students’ Hostel, School of Post-Basic Nursing (Psychiatry) and an ICT Centre, Event Hall, and Alternative Power Supply Systems
Dr. Salako commended the outgoing medical director for his visionary leadership. “These projects are transformative,” the minister said. “They will enhance patient outcomes and position the hospital as a regional centre of excellence in mental health care.”
The title Zaruman Kware, which translates to ‘the Pillar of Kware’, is expected to become a lasting symbol of Prof. Sale’s legacy in the community.
