Collapsed towers disrupt power supply in Nasarawa

ABUJA — The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced the unavailability of all 33kV outgoing feeders at the Keffi and Akwanga transmission substations in Nasarawa State following the collapse of three transmission towers.
The affected towers — T78, T79 and T80 — are located along the Karu-Keffi-Akwanga 132kV transmission line corridor.
TCN disclosed this in a statement posted on its X platform on Thursday, saying the incident occurred at about 4:06pm on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, during rainy and windy conditions.
According to the company, the 132kV Karu-Keffi-Akwanga Single Circuit Transmission Line tripped on overcurrent relay protection during the incident.
“Investigations revealed that three transmission towers have collapsed. TCN promptly isolated for safety,” the statement said.
The company said the collapse had rendered all 33kV outgoing feeders at the 132/33kV Keffi and 132/33kV Akwanga transmission substations unavailable.
It added that no load could be nominated on the affected feeders until further notice.
TCN said its engineers were already at the site to assess the extent of the damage and determine the materials and other requirements needed to commence restoration work.
The company apologised to electricity consumers supplied from the affected substations for the disruption.
“Please bear with us as we make every effort to ensure that necessary repairs are completed as quickly as possible to enable the restoration of bulk power supply,” it said.
TCN assured the public that it would continue to provide updates as restoration efforts progressed.
