China Retaliates, Imposes 84% Tariffs On U.S Goods

China has imposed an 84% tariff on U.S. imports after President Donald Trump’s tariff increase on all Chinese goods took effect on Wednesday.

China’s foreign ministry asked the U.S. to stop its “bullying” and come to the table with respect if it wants to solve the problem, reports CNN.

Speaking to reporters at a regular media briefing, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said the U.S. has continued to impose tariffs on China “indiscriminately”.

The White House had already imposed a 20% tariff on Chinese goods before raising it by 34% following China’s refusal to back down from its own tariff plans.

Trump on Wednesday added an extra 50% to bring the total to 104%, leading to an 84% tariff incense from China.

In addition to the tariffs, Trump on Wednesday, signed a new order that will raise tariffs on small packages below $800, which were previously not taxed.

The goods will now face a 90% tariff, making shopping from popular sites like Shein, Temu, and AliExpress more expensive.

The Chinese Commerce Ministry had said that the U.S. was making “a mistake on top of a mistake” and promised to continue to strike back if the U.S. continues its tariff measures.

Chinese state media said China is planning to hit the U.S., with higher tariffs on American farm goods like soybeans, a possible ban on U.S. poultry, cutting cooperation on fentanyl issues, which will limit U.S. business access in China.

China’s President Xi Jinping is expected to meet leaders from Europe and Asia to strengthen trade ties, especially with countries like Spain, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Cambodia, where some Chinese factories have already moved.
