Professor Adamu Ahmed has been appointed the new Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, one of Nigeria’s premier universities.

He takes over from the current VC, Prof. Kabir Bala.

According to a statement by the institute’s Director of Public Affairs, Malam Auwalu Umar, the appointment was announced at 6:15 am on Wednesday, February 5, during the 209th (Special) Council meeting presided over by its Chairman, Mahmud Yayale Ahmed.

Professor Ahmed, who teaches at the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, has had a distinguished career, serving as the Director of the institution’s Directorate of University Advancement.

He is also the current Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Education, Kano.

The appointment of Prof. Ahmed marks a significant development in the leadership of ABU, which has a long history of academic excellence.

His wealth of experience and expertise are expected to be valuable assets in steering the institution towards greater heights.

Details of Professor Ahmed’s tenure and plans for the university are still sketchy, but sources close to the university say he is expected to build on the foundations laid by his predecessors and take the university to new heights.

The appointment has been hailed by stakeholders, who describe Professor Ahmed as a seasoned academic and administrator with the requisite experience to lead the university.

“Professor Ahmed is a round peg in a round hole,” said a source close to the university. “He has the experience, expertise, and passion to lead ABU to greatness.”

The university’s governing council has been praised for making a wise choice in appointing Professor Ahmed as the new Vice-Chancellor.

The appointment is expected to bring stability and continuity to the university, which has been undergoing significant changes in recent years.

As Professor Ahmed prepares to take the reins of leadership at ABU, stakeholders are eagerly awaiting his vision and plans for the university.
