A 35-year-old man, Yusuf Isah, was shot dead by armed bandits along the Isa–Shinkafi road in Sokoto State on Tuesday evening.

Counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama revealed in post on X that the attackers, believed to be loyal to wanted bandit leader Bello Turji, blocked the road around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday and opened fire on passing vehicles. Isah was hit by a bullet and died on the spot.

A source revealed to Makama that the bandits arrived on motorcycles and shot randomly at commuters, leading to panic in the area.

Troops from Operation FANSAN YANMA quickly arrived at the scene, leading to a gunfight with the bandits. The attackers later fled into the nearby forest.

During the operation, security forces recovered a Canter truck and a motorcycle believed to belong to the bandits.
Military patrols have since been increased in the area to ensure the safety of commuters.
