Bayern Confirm Musiala Out For Long Period After Ankle Dislocation

Bayern Munich have confirmed that Jamal Musiala is expected to be ruled out for a long period after suffering a broken fibula, and ankle dislocation against PSG on Saturday.
The 22-year-old was hurt in a challenge with PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma in Bayern’s 2-0 defeat in the quarter-finals in Atlanta.
The Bundesliga Champions confirmed in a statement on Sunday that the former Chelsea youth player is set for a long spell on the sidelines.
The statement read: “This serious injury and the lengthy lay-off are a real shock for Jamal and us all. This hits FC Bayern. Everyone knows how immensely important Jamal is for our game and what a central role he has in our team.
“Furthermore, there’s also a huge human impact and we all feel for him: Jamal has just come back from an injury and will now be out for another long period. He’ll get everything he needs from us. We’ll support him intensively, be by his side and already look forward to when he’s back on the pitch.”
Bayern Munich captain Manuel Neuer blamed Donnarumma for the injury, describing the challenge as risky.
He said: “You just accept that your opponent might get injured. It could even be a team-mate.
“So I went over to him and said: ‘Don’t you want’ – because it was half-time anyway – ‘don’t you want to go over there? Jamal is lying there, he’ll probably stay in the hospital, he has a serious injury, and I think it’s only right to go over there out of respect and wish him well and just say a little sorry.
“After that, he went over to Jamal. Fairness is always important, and I would have reacted differently.”
Similarly, Bayern Munich coach, Vincent Kompany was disappointed with the injury, expressing his sympathy for Musiala.
He said: “For these guys, it’s their life. Someone like Jamal lives for this, and he comes back from a setback, and then it happens in the way it happens and you feel powerless.
“But the idea for the group and for us is always to gain strength out of it.
“So you try and get strength out of it because you want to do it for Jamal, but of course it’s… when I’m sat here next to you now… the thing that gets my blood still boiling at the moment, it’s not the result.
“I understand this is football but it’s the fact that it happened to someone that enjoys the game so much, but he’s also very important to us.”
It was a disappointing outing for Musiala, who was making his first start for Bayern Munich since April against PSG after recovering from a muscular complaint.
Musiala has scored 64 goals, and recorded 39 assists for Bayern Munich in 207 appearances in the Bundesliga.
He has won five Bundesliga titles, three DFL Supercups, one UEFA Super Cup and one FIFA Club World Cup.
In terms of individual accolades too, he has been awarded the German national Player of the Year twice (2022, 2024), as well as being named in the Bundesliga team of the season twice in (2022/23, 2023/24).
