Bauchi governor dismisses university bursar over alleged financial mismanagement
Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has dismissed the Acting Bursar of Sa’adu Zungur State University (SAZU), Ayuba Mohammed Gital, for alleged financial mismanagement and lack of accountability.
The Governor made the announcement in Bauchi on Tuesday while receiving the report of a visitation panel tasked with investigating the institution’s administrative and financial conduct. He expressed deep concern over what he described as poor financial management since the university’s establishment in 2012.
The governor also revealed that he had decided to put an audit committee together to investigate how student fees and other internally generated revenues are being managed by the university.
Prof. Gambo Laraba Abdullahi, chairperson of the visitation panel, clarified that the visitations were conducted at all campuses of SAZU and that the extracted evidence from the visitation was based on forty-seven memoranda that the panel received, including complaints from the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) regarding funding and management deficiencies.
She stated that the amount allocated to the university had recently been increased to N400 million and suggested that the government review the multi-campus status of the university.
