Bandits kill seven people, injure others in Zamfara
Suspected gunmen attacked and killed about seven passengers, while several others were injured along the Tsafe-Funtua road in Zamfara State when travelling on a commercial vehicle.
A source told DAILY POST that the gunmen attacked the commercial vehicle around 7pm on Thursday before the road was scheduled to close for the day following a security measure recently implemented by the Zamfara State Government to curb recurring assaults on motorists.
According to the source, “The bandits were on motorcycles, crossing the road, when they encountered an oncoming commercial bus and opened fire on them.”
He added that the bandits were riding across the road when they spotted the bus and immediately began shooting.
He said that the vehicle was carrying women and children, pointing out that seven people, including some children, were killed on the spot.
He explained that passengers from two other vehicles were also abducted during the ambush.
The Zamfara State police command, DSP Yazid Abubakar could not be reached on calls to comment on the incident.
