The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed the death of sixteen persons following a violent bandit attack on two villages, Tungan Taura and Tungan Ladan, in Augie Local Government Area.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, the attack occurred around 6:00 PM on Saturday, April 6, 2025.
Abubakar stated that heavily armed assailants, suspected to be members of the notorious Lakurawa group, stormed the communities in large numbers.
“The attackers, who arrived in large numbers, rustled an unspecified number of cattle and engaged in a deadly confrontation with community members, which led to the tragic loss of sixteen lives,” Abubakar stated.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Bello M. Sani, condemned the attack and pledged decisive action.
He announced the immediate deployment of additional tactical units comprising police operatives, military personnel, officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and local vigilante groups to restore order and pursue the perpetrators.
“Our resolve to rid Kebbi State of banditry and other violent crimes remains firm,” CP Sani said. “We are deploying all available resources to ensure that the perpetrators of this senseless act are brought to justice,” the commissioner was quoted as saying.
Abubakar also confirmed that normalcy has returned to the affected communities, while a thorough investigation into the incident is currently underway.
The command called on residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies while reaffirming its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
