The Director-General, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, Prof Moji Adeyeye, has warned members of the Nigerian Association of Patent and Proprietary Medicine Dealers (NAPPMED) to avoid the purchase and sale of substandard drugs.

Adeyeye gave the warning during a one-day sensitisation campaign organised for members of the NAPPMED in Abuja on Monday.

Adeyeye, who was represented by the agency’s Director of Post-Marketing Surveillance, Fraden Bitrus, urged the dealers to ensure that they source their drugs from a reputable organisation.

“Today, we discuss a crucial issue: sourcing quality products for our communities,” she said.

She emphasised the urgent need for stringent measures to combat substandard and falsified medical products in the country.

Adeyeye urged them to prioritise the welfare of the community over financial gain.

She also urged them to recognise their significant role as healthcare professionals, saying,

“Your services directly impact community welfare. It is essential to prioritize their well-being,” she said.

Speaking on the key strategies to avoid falsified products, the DG stated that apart from sourcing from reputable suppliers, they should ensure that all products meet regulatory standards.

“To avoid falsified products. You must source products correctly and verify their compliance with NAFDAC regulations,” she said.

She called on stakeholders to join hands in the fight against substandard drugs.

“Let’s unite against falsified products. Support NAFDAC’s efforts to eradicate harmful products from our markets.

“Let’s work together to ensure Nigeria has access to quality products,” she said.
