Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed sympathy with traders and families affected by the recent fire outbreak at Singer Market in Kano, describing the incident as a devastating loss of livelihoods.
In a message shared on his X (formerly Twitter) platform on Sunday, Atiku said his thoughts were with those impacted and pledged solidarity with the victims.
“My heart goes out to every trader and family affected by the devastating fire at Singer Market in Kano. The anguish of losing one’s means of livelihood in such a tragic manner is profound, and I stand in solidarity with all who have been impacted,” he wrote.
He commended the efforts of the Kano State Government for providing immediate intervention and support to victims, noting that such actions offer hope in a period of deep distress.
The former vice president urged authorities to expand relief efforts to ensure comprehensive rehabilitation and implement stronger preventive measures to safeguard markets against future incidents.
“I urge that these efforts be expanded to ensure comprehensive relief, rehabilitation, and stronger preventive measures to safeguard our markets. In times like this, leadership must translate compassion into sustained action,” he stated.
The fire incident at Singer Market has left many traders counting losses, prompting calls for coordinated assistance and improved safety measures in public markets.
