Atiku Speaks Why He Visited Obasanjo In Abeokuta

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar visited former President Olusegun Obasanjo at his residence in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Monday.

Abubakar was accompanied by prominent political figures, including former Cross River State Governor Liyel Imoke, former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal, and Senator Abdul Ningi.

Emerging from the meeting around 2:17 p.m., Atiku told journalists that his visit was merely a courtesy call to his former boss and that politics was not discussed.

When asked whether the meeting was linked to his 2027 presidential ambition, he responded, “I am here on a courtesy call. I am not here to talk politics.”

However, sources suggest that the meeting is part of ongoing coalition discussions ahead of the 2027 general election.

Atiku, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the 2023 election, has been actively pushing for coalition talks in recent weeks.

In November 2023, he called on opposition parties to unite, emphasising that Nigeria needs a strong opposition to prevent the All Progressives Congress (APC) from turning the country into a one-party state.
