The Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) Bauchi has matriculated 4,364 students for the 2024/2025 academic session.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibrahim Garba said this during the matriculation exercise on Friday in Bauchi.
He said the students were admitted into the Faculties of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology; Engineering and Engineering Technology, Environmental Technology, Management Sciences, Science, and Computing.
Others are Faculty of Technology Education, Veterinary Medicine, Sustainable Procurement & Environmental Centre of Excellence, College of Medical Sciences.
Garba congratulated the students and urged them to play according to the rules and regulations guiding their conduct in the university.
He cautioned the students against destructive behaviours, warning that the university would not condone drug abuse, cultism and vices.
“These vices have no place in our university, and we will not tolerate them.
“Not only do they pose a threat to your physical and mental health, but they also undermine the values of our institution and the trust that your parents and guardians have placed in us,” he said.
The VC enjoined the students to dedicate themselves to studies, and explore their passions to develop talents.
Garba also commended the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), emphasising that it played a crucial role in enhancing access to quality higher education in the country.
“With the rising cost of registration fees and educational materials, many students face financial barriers that hinder their academic progress.
“The fund therefore bridges this gap by providing affordable loans to eligible students, thereby empowering them to pursue their educational aspirations without the burden of financial strain.
“It did not only help the students to pay for their registration fees but also covered essential expenses such as textbooks, accommodation, and other learning resources,” he said.
