APC Rep Backtracks From Praising PDP’s Adeleke After Backlash

A member of the House of Representatives, Alhassan Ado-Doguwa has been forced to eat his words.

Ado-Doguwa Rep, who is a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), had showered praises on Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State.

The Kano born Rep, while representing the Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas at the Ede Day celebration on Saturday, had commended Governor Adeleke for his giant development strides in the state.

Ado-Doguwa, apparently acting on the spur-of-the-moment, had declared, “It appears to me that Osun is like a no-go area.”

Expectedly, the Osun PDP quickly amplified his commendation of Governor Adeleke by splashing Ado-Doguwa’s statement across social media platforms.

Recall that the National Chairman of the APC, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje had boasted that the APC will take Osun and Oyo States from the PDP in the next governorship election.

An elated Ganduje spoke in Akure, the Ondo state capital while celebrating the APC’s victory in the recent Ondo governorship election.

Both Governors Adeleke and Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde had fired back at Ganduje, promising that they would shock the APC and their leaders at the next election.

The praises showered on Governor Adeleke by Ado-Doguwa apparently dampened the enthusiasm of the Osun APC chapter, which viewed the statement made by the Rep as counterbalancing the position of the APC national chairman.

Miffed by Ado-Doguwa’s statement, the Osun APC accused him of de-marketing the party in the state and boosting the chances of the PDP in the process.

Obviously rattled by the reaction of the Osun APC, Ado-Doguwa was forced to do a recant on Tuesday, apologising to his party for the slip.

In attempts to rationalise his statements, Ado-Doguwa blamed the PDP for “deliberately using his statements for political gains.”

In a statement he personally signed, Ado-Doguwa said, “The PDP in Osun misused my comments to suit their local political struggles. This was a deliberate attempt to gain political advantage.

“I wish to tender my unreserved apologies to our APC family in Osun State. Please accept my heartfelt apologies. By God’s grace, the days of the PDP are numbered in Osun State. In 2026, our party will bounce back in the state, Insha Allah.”

Reiterating his unwavering support for the APC, the Kano Rep said, “I remain the chief promoter of the All Progressives Congress across the country, including in Osun State.

“I never meant to embarrass or criticize my mother’s party in any way,” he assured

He pleaded with APC members in Osun State to accept his apologies, stating that his comments were misinterpreted and he never intended to undermine the party.
