Another 20 Killed, Others Injured In Israeli Airstrikes On Gaza
An Israeli airstrike on a residential building in Gaza City’s Shujaiya neighborhood killed at least 20 people and injured over 40 others on Wednesday morning, according to Gaza’s civil defence agency.
The agency’s spokesperson, Mahmud Bassal, confirmed that search and rescue efforts were ongoing.
The attack comes as efforts to revive a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas continue to stall.
Israel resumed its military offensive on March 18 after a two-month truce collapsed, intensifying airstrikes across the Gaza Strip.
According to Gaza’s health ministry, the renewed military campaign has claimed at least 1,482 Palestinian lives, bringing the total death toll in Gaza since the conflict began to 50,846.
Hossam Badran, a senior Hamas political leader, said on Tuesday that while discussions with mediators are ongoing, “no new proposals” have emerged.
He emphasized Hamas’s willingness to consider any plan that could “lead to a ceasefire and stop the genocide enacted against our Palestinian people.”
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said earlier this week that new talks are underway, focused on securing the release of more hostages held in Gaza.
The war in Gaza began after Hamas’ suprise attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, resulting in the deaths of 1,218 persons, mostly civilians, while 251 persons were taken hostage according to Israeli official figures.
Out of the 251 hostages in captivity, 58 are still held in Gaza, including 34 persons who the Israeli military said are dead.
Netanyahu has vowed to continue bombarding Gaza until Hamas Withdraws from the region and returns all Israeli hostages.
