Angry mob lynches three suspected robbers in Benue
The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the killing of three suspected robbers by an angry mob in Maav-Ya community, located in Nyihemba, Kwande Local Government Area of the state.
The incident occurred on July 15 at about 11:00 am. Youths of the community apprehend the suspects – Zwanen Terzungwe, Iordepuu Gwa and Aondongu Terna – whom they accused of robbery.
The suspects were taken to the community council hall, where they were beaten to death.
According to findings by Zagazola Makama, police operatives were deployed to the scene after receiving reports of the incident. However, the youths responsible for the mob action had fled before security personnel arrived.
The bodies of the deceased suspects were later evacuated and deposited at the mortuary of the Kwande General Hospital.
Reacting to the development, security authorities strongly condemned the resort to jungle justice, warning that no individual or group has the right to take laws into their own hands, no matter the nature of the allegations.
The police added that efforts are underway to identify and arrest those involved in the mob killing.
