Andy Murray Considers Comeback To Tennis Coaching

Andy Murray has expressed his desire to return to coaching a few weeks after he left his role as the coach of Novak Djokovic.

Murray, who enjoyed a successful career in tennis before retiring last year, joined Djokovic’s coaching staff in November.

He was able to lead him to four tournaments; as the partnership failed to yield any trophy, the pair parted ways in May 2025.

Djokovic said in May that he could not get more out of the partnership while praising Murray for his professionalism.

He said, “We felt like we couldn’t get more out of that partnership on the court, and that’s all there is to it.

“My respect towards Andy remains the same, even more actually; I got to know him as a person.

“I think he has a brilliant tennis IQ; he has a very rare mind of a champion that obviously has achieved what he has achieved, and he sees the game incredibly well.”

However, Murray is looking forward to another coaching opportunity.

He said, “I would do it again at some stage. I don’t think that will happen immediately.

“I wasn’t planning on going into coaching as soon as I finished playing, but it was a pretty unique opportunity. It was a chance to learn from one of the best athletes of all time.

“You also learn a lot about how to work with a team. As an individual athlete, you have a team of people around you, but you’re the focal point, whereas when you’re coaching an individual, you’re working with a physio, physical trainers, and agents.

“You need to know how to get your message across to the player and find out what makes them tick. That was the thing I learnt and something I need to work on if I want to do it again in the future.

“It was a brilliant opportunity for me. We got to spend some really nice moments away from the court. Results weren’t as we wanted, but we gave it a go.”

Murray also revealed that Sunday’s epic French Open final between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner was proof that tennis is in a great place.

He concluded, “They’re both brilliant athletes and very different personalities, which I think for fans is really exciting.

“For me, particularly, Alcaraz has an exciting brand of tennis to watch, and they complement each other well. They’ve already had some brilliant matches, and from what I’ve been told, it was one of the best finals for a long time.

“Moving forward, men’s tennis is in a great place. People always worry at the end of a generation of players about what’s going to happen with the sport next, but generally, sports continue to evolve and, in most cases, improve.

“Jack [Draper]’s right in the mix just now and doing extremely well. He’s going to give himself opportunities to win majors over the next five, 10 years.”

Murray won 46 ATP Tour-level singles titles, including three majors at the 2012 US Open, 2013 Wimbledon Championships, and 2016 Wimbledon Championships.

He also won two gold medals at the Summer Olympics, the 2016 ATP World Tour Finals, and 14 Masters events and contested a total of eleven major finals.
