Anambra Police Arrest Man Over Abduction, Murder Of Six-Year-Old Girl

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested one Friday Akonobi, 28, in connection with the abduction and murder of a six-year-old girl.
Akonobi, upon his arrest on January 17, admitted to having abducted the minor alongwith four other accomplices.
The spokesperson of the command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga in a press release on Sunday, connected the abduction to an Enugu-based native doctor, Obieze Ezeani.
Ezeani, popularly called “Edey Play” or “Edey Show” is allegedly known for ritual activities, the police statement revealed.
According to Ikenga, a preliminary probe found that the suspect had abducted the minor from Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State on May 10, 2025.
“The suspect allegedly confessed that he carried out the abduction in collaboration with four other accomplices who are currently at large,” Ikenga said.
According to the police, the suspect told investigators that the child was taken to Enugu and handed over to the native doctor.
“The suspect claimed that he and others acted as agents for the native doctor and were paid one million naira each for any virgin girl delivered to him,” Ikenga stated.
He added that the suspect alleged the six-year-old girl was later murdered and used for rituals.
Ikenga confirmed that the named native doctor has since been arrested by operatives of the Enugu State Police Command.
He noted that the arrest followed widespread public attention generated by videos circulating on social media.
The police spokesman said investigations were ongoing and efforts had been intensified to track down other members of the syndicate.
“The Anambra State Police Command is committed to ensuring that all those involved in this heinous crime are brought to justice,” Ikenga said.
He added that further developments would be communicated as the investigation progresses.
