Amorim Apologises To Manchester United Supporters For Poor Season
Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim has apologised to the club’s supporters for the team’s poor performances in the Premier League this season.
Amorim, who took over after Erik Ten Hag was sacked in October has overseen the club’s worst ever season in the top flight.
The Red Devils recorded a 15th place finish in their lowest league position since relegation to the second division in the 1973-74 season.
The team also lost 1-0 to Tottenham in the Europa League final on Wednesday in Spain.
Amorim apologised to the fans while appreciating them for their support after the 2-0 win over Aston Villa on Sunday.
He said: “First of all, I want to apologise for this season,” Amorim said in a speech at the end of the Villa game. “I know you are really disappointed in me and in the team.
“I want to say thank you, we are very grateful for your support during the season and I know it was really hard to support us in many games.
“But now we have to make a choice or we stay stuck in the past because this season is in the past — it’s over. We fight each other or we stick together and move forward.”
Amorim revealed that the club is ready to focus on the future ahesd of a busy summer at Old Trafford.
He said: “Six months ago, in my first three games in charge, with two victories and one draw, I said to you, “the storm is coming.
“Today after this disastrous season, I want to tell you the good days are coming.
“If there is one club in the world that proves in the past that can overcome any situation, any disaster, it is our club, Manchester United Football Club.
“Now I want to say sorry also to my players. Sometimes I was not fair, but I always try to be honest with you guys. Thank you very much, see you next season.”
Manchester United have won just 17 of the 42 matches they have played under the Ruben Amorim.
Meanwhile, According to reports in England, Amorim has told winger Alejandro Garnacho he will be allowed to leave the club in the summer after his Europa League final tantrums.
The Argentine forward came off the bench in the encounter in the second half only for him and his brother to criticise Amorim for not starting him in the 1-0 defeat to Tottenham.
Garnacho said after the match: “Up until the final I played every round helping the team, and today I play 20 minutes, I don’t know.
“The final will influence [my decision] but the whole season, the situation of the club. I’m going to try to enjoy the summer and see what happens afterwards.”
Garnacho’s brother, Roberto, posted on social media after the match.
He wrote: “Working as no-one else, helping every round, coming from two goals in the last two finals, just to be on the pitch for 19 mins and get thrown under the bus.”
Consequently, Ruben Amorim left Garnacho out of the matchday squad entirely in the last match of the season.
In December, Amorim left Garnacho out of the team alongside Marcus Rashford, citing their training performances, game performances and engagement with team-mates as the reasons behind his decision.
He was recalled after some few games, but he has struggled for consistency under the Portuguese coach.
The 20-year-old is Manchester United’s second highest scorer this season with 11 goals.
Garnacho is expected to bring an end to his five-year association with Manchester United in the summer.
