American singer Chris Brown has been released on bail by a London court after being charged in connection with an alleged unprovoked nightclub attack in 2023.
The 36-year-old Grammy award winner is accused of inflicting grievous bodily harm after allegedly assaulting a music producer with a tequila bottle at Tape nightclub in London’s Mayfair district, reports BBC.
The incident reportedly took place last year, and Brown was arrested in Salford last Thursday.
Brown, who was initially denied bail on Friday, was released by Southwark Crown Court on Wednesday under strict conditions.
The presiding Judge Tony Baumgartner ordered that the musician pay £4m immediately, with an additional £1m due within seven days, totalling a £5m security fee.
This financial guarantee is intended to ensure his return to court and may be forfeited if he breaches any bail terms.
Though he was not present at Wednesday’s hearing, the ruling clears the way for Brown to begin his world tour due to start on June 8 in Amsterdam.
The tour includes performances in Manchester, London, Cardiff, Birmingham, and Glasgow throughout June and July.
As part of his bail conditions, Brown must reside at an approved address, avoid any contact with the alleged victim, stay away from the Tape nightclub, and refrain from applying for international travel documents unless related to his tour.
He must also surrender his passport when not performing abroad.
His next court appearance is scheduled for 20 June, between shows at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium and London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Brown will appear alongside co-defendant Omololu Akinlolu, a 38-year-old U.S. performer known as HoodyBaby, who is also facing charges in relation to the case.
He has had a lot of legal troubles, including a felony conviction for assaulting then-girlfriend Rihanna in 2009.
