Alonso Opens Up On Aston Martin’s Poor Form In 2025 Formula One Season
Fernando Alonso has admitted that Aston Martin has found it difficult to compete at the 2025 Formula One season while expecting an improvement at the Miami Grand Prix.
The Spaniard has endured a poor start to the season to sit 17th in the drivers’ championship, and has failed to score a single point in 2025.
It is the first time since 2027 that he has gone pointless in the first five races of the season.
Aston Martin are occupying the seventh position in the constructors’ championship, courtesy of Lance Stroll’s 10 points from Australia, and China Grand Prix.
Alonso accepted that the Aston Martin team has failed to live up to expectations while expecting a reaction in Miami on Sunday.
He said: “We are not as competitive as we want to be, we thought we’d be, but I think there is not only one theme.
“There are a couple of factors that make the car a little bit difficult at the moment, in terms of pace, and maybe not as fast as some of the midfield [teams] that … raised the level and they are closer to the top four, and we didn’t make that step.
“We need to react, we need to do things better and hopefully in the next few races we have a step forward, but yeah, it has been more difficult than expected.”
In 2024, Alonso struggled to earn a ninth-place finish while his teammate Lance Stroll also failed to impress.
He concluded: “I think Miami has not been really a good track for us, even in ’23 with a podium here, we only came alive in qualy, all the free practices were a little bit uncompetitive for our standards in ’23 at the beginning of the year and last year also.
“If we started the season strong, especially in qualy, Miami was difficult. So yeah, let’s see if we change things this year, but it could be a tough weekend, for sure.”
Alonso has won two Formula One World Drivers’ Championship titles, which he won in 2005 and 2006 with Renault, and has also won 32 Grands Prix across 22 seasons.
Formula one returns on Sunday for the sixth race of the season at the Miami Grand Prix on Sunday.
