Alcaraz Wins 2025 Monte Carlo Masters Trophy
Carlos Alcaraz produced an impressive performance to defeat Lorenzo Musetti 3-6, 6-1, 6-0, which earned him the Monte Carlo Masters title on Sunday.
Musetti started brilliantly by winning the first four games in a row as Alcaraz struggled with forehand errors.
Alcaraz recorded 14 unforced errors in the first set, 11 off the forehand alone, before bouncing back in the second half.
He won five games in a row to begin his comeback quest to close out an eight-minute game to force a deciding third set.
The French Open defending champion dominated the third set after Musetti was affected by a thigh injury after going down 3-0.
Alcaraz held on to seal the game, which earned him his sixth ATP Masters 1000 trophy and his 18th title overall.
He was delighted to end a difficult week on a successful note.
Alcaraz said, “It’s been a really difficult week with a lot of difficult situations.
“I’m really proud of myself for how I’ve dealt with everything. It’s been a really difficult month for me on the court and outside.
“Coming here and seeing how all the hard work has paid off, I’m really happy.
“Lorenzo’s been through a really tough week with long and intense matches.
“I feel sorry for him; one of the best results he has done, to end like this, is not easy. Hopefully it’s not serious and he’s 100 per cent soon.”
On the other hand, Musetti was disappointed to end the competition on a losing note.
“It was probably one of my best tournaments so far.
“I’m disappointed I couldn’t finish the match in the best way for the crowd. You deserve it, so I will keep going and try and come back for revenge.”
It was Alcaraz’s third consecutive clay-court final after winning the French Open and finishing with a silver medal at the Paris Olympics last year.
He became the sixth Spanish man in the Open Era to claim the title in Monte Carlo, joining a list of tennis greats from his nation.
Alcaraz’s victory in Monte Carlo allowed him to surpass Alexander Zverev to reclaim the world number two spot in the ATP rankings.
