The Abia State Government has called on the staff of the Abia State Civil Service Commission to work in unity and rededicate themselves to the effective implementation of Governor Alex Otti’s policies aimed at repositioning the state’s civil service for greater efficiency and service delivery.

This appeal was made by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Kenneth Kalu, during a working visit to the commission’s headquarters in Umuahia on Tuesday.

Prof. Kalu’s visit was part of the government’s ongoing efforts to engage with key institutions and ensure alignment with Governor Otti’s vision for good governance.

While addressing the management and staff of the commission, Prof. Kalu emphasised the critical role of the civil service as the engine room of governance. He urged them to work diligently, collaboratively, and with a shared sense of purpose to actualise the reforms initiated by the Otti-led administration.

“Your roles as civil servants cannot be overemphasised. The success of any government policy depends largely on how well you execute your duties.

“Governor Otti has made significant efforts to reposition the civil service, and it is only right that you reciprocate through dedication and efficient service delivery,” he said.

Prof. Kalu further highlighted Governor Otti’s achievements in revitalising the civil service, including infrastructural upgrades, improved welfare packages, and capacity-building initiatives.

He noted that these strides are part of a broader agenda to build a functional, responsive, and people-centred public service in Abia State.

In her welcome address, the Chairman of the Civil Service Commission, Dr (Pastor) Eno Jerry Eze, expressed profound gratitude to the SSG for the visit, describing it as a morale booster for the staff.

She lauded Governor Otti for his unwavering commitment to improving the state’s civil service, especially through the provision of a new office complex and modern office equipment.

“The governor’s interventions have greatly enhanced our working conditions. The staff of this commission are hard-working and committed, and we assure you of our unflinching support for the present administration,” she stated.

Adding her voice, Commissioner II of the Commission, Dr Mrs Chioma Orikara, thanked Governor Otti for including the commission in his administration’s rebuilding agenda. She underscored the importance of collective effort in realising the state’s development goals.

In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the commission, Mrs. Ekaete, also appreciated the SSG for his visit and reiterated the staff’s commitment to excellence in service delivery.

“This visit is indeed encouraging. We promise to continue to give our best in supporting the government’s vision for a better Abia,” she affirmed.

The visit provided an opportunity for the SSG to inspect the newly provided office facilities and interact directly with staff, reaffirming the government’s commitment to fostering an efficient and motivated workforce.
