Abia Govt Debunks Recruitment Rumours

Abia State Government has debunked the rumours making rounds that the proposed teacher recruitment in primary, Junior and senior secondary schools, recently approved by the State Governor, has already been marred by extortion, favouritism, and secrecy, among others.

Recall that the state government recently lifted an embargo placed on employment by announcing her intention to recruit 2,500 teachers to supplement the existing ones in the state.

After the announcement, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Elder Goodluck Ubochi, swung into action by setting up a seven-member task force to midwife the recruitment process in the state.

Addressing newsmen on Monday at the Secretariat of the Abia State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB), the Chairman of the task force, Dr Uzoamaka Ama-Mbah, said the recruitment was in line with the promises of the Governor, Alex Otti, who is desirous of developing the education sector in the state.

While assuring that all modalities have been put in place to ensure that the process is hitch-free and transparent, Dr Ama-Mbah informed me that the portal would be opened on Wednesday, January 29th, 2025.

She revealed that those eligible to apply should not be more than 45 years old and stressed that the qualifications required include: NCE, Bachelor in Education, BSc, and Diploma in Education, adding that there would be no physical application as is being speculated.

She informed us that Abians are not expected to pay anything before participating in the process and warned that those caught using the opportunity to exploit unsuspecting members of the public would face the full wrath of the law, adding that the application process would last for two weeks.

“Every application will be done, completed and submitted online. We are working so hard to make sure that we live up to the expectations of His Excellency, our Executive Governor, and also our Honourable Commissioner, who has given us the mandate to work.

“So, Abians must note that you are not required to pay even a cub or split into two for this, and you are not expected to submit your application to anybody.

“If you are caught extorting money, you will be severely punished. Remember, it’s no longer business as usual,” she said.
