The Abia State government has lifted the ban it had placed on the operations of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, in the state.

Abia State Commissioner for Transport Chimezie Isaac Ukaegbu, announced this on Tuesday following a meeting held with the NURTW delegation from both the state and national levels.

The commissioner stated that the lifting of the ban was as a result of the state government’s commitment to fairness and the creation of a better transport environment. He noted that Governor Alex Otti remains committed to providing a convenient system of transportation in Abia.

In his speech, the National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, thanked the Abia State Commissioner for Transport, Chimezie Isaac Ukaegbu, for lifting the ban.

Akinsanya, who was represented by the Deputy National Chairman, Aliyu Isaa Ore, further promised that the union would carry out its activities in the state in line with the policies and objectives of Governor Alex Otti.

Also speaking at the event, Chukwuma Azode, who was elected as the chairman of NURTW in Abia, said that he would pilot the affairs of the union in the state in accordance with the goals of the state government.

Azode made it clear that the lawlessness which characterised the past would not be allowed to reoccur, adding that the election had provided a fresh opportunity to improve the face of transportation in Abia.
