Abia Expands Access To Electricity, Distributes Transformers Across Communities

The Abia State Government has commenced the third phase of distribution of Transformers to Communities across the State.

Speaking while handing over the Transformers to 17 benefiting Communities at the Ministry of Power and Public Utilities, the Hon Commissioner Engr Ikechukwu Monday said the project is Governor Alex Otti’s initiative to solve power needs and electricity issues facing Communities, Industries, Health and Educational sectors among others.

Engr Ikechukwu noted that Governor Alex Otti placed great emphasis and priority on education, hence “when they got the complaint of power problem facing Federal Girls Government College Umuahia, His Excellency the Governor directed that Transformer be given to them, which the Hon Member representing Umuahia South in the State Assembly Hon Emeka Obioma is here for collection.”

He enjoined leaders of benefiting Communities to take responsibility and protect the transformers from theft and vandalism, warning that the Government will retrieve the transformer from any community that does not install it after six months.

In their contributions, members representing Umuahia South and Umuahia North in the Abia House of Assembly, Hon Emeka Obioma and Hon Chinasa Anthony Abiola, thanked the Governor for keeping to his campaign promises of providing dividends of democracy to Ndi Abia.

He also appreciated Engr Ikechukwu Monday for the good work he is doing in the Ministry without favoritism, and enjoined those who have not gotten to be patient and wait for their turn.

Some of the Community representatives including: the Mayor of Isiala Ngwa South Mr Nwaogwugwu Daniel, Honourable Lawrence Odoemelem, GM Comfort Steven’s Industries Owerenta, representatives of FGGC Umuahia, Mr Edoho Solomon, Health Center 2, WBHE Comrade Val Emeh, and Mr Egwuatu Daniel Agbama Housing Estate, among others.

They appreciated the Governor for his quick intervention in solving the Electricity needs of Ndi Abia, which is the sure way to Industrialization.

They extolled the governor for the choice of Engr Ikechukwu Monday as the Commissioner for Power and Public Utilities, whose activities they said are very commendable and promised to take ownership of the Transformers.
