71 Suspects Arrested As Lagos Taskforce Raids Criminal Hideouts

The Lagos State Environmental Taskforce has arrested 71 suspects during a midnight raid across Lagos Island, targeting areas reportedly overrun by criminal elements.

The operation commenced at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

According to the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, the raid covered major parts of Lagos Island, including Victoria Island, Oniru, Ikoyi, Apongbon, and the Law School axis.

These areas had been flagged through the Taskforce’s internal feedback mechanisms as hotspots for criminal activity, with reports of innocent residents and commuters being assaulted and robbed of their belongings.

Wahab confirmed that all 71 suspects will be charged in court in accordance with the law.

“In continuation of the Lagos State Environmental Taskforce team clean-up enforcement operation to rid the State of criminal elements, the Agency set out at about 0030 hrs on Tuesday, 29th April, 2025 and embarked on its clean-up enforcement operation on Lagos Island,” Wahab said in a post on X.

“The areas visited during the operation include Victoria Island, Oniru, Ikoyi, Apongbon, Law School, etc., where the presence of some undesirable elements was noticed.

“Consequent upon the agency feedback mechanism, some of these streets are populated by suspected criminals attacking, assaulting and denying innocent Lagosians their hard-earned valuables and belongings.

“During the RAID exercise, a total of 71 suspects were arrested, and sanity was restored in all the areas.

“All the Suspects will be charged in court accordingly,” he added
