A total of 469 students have graduated from the Oyo State College of Nursing and Midwifery.

Thirty-one of the students graduated as the best students; three earned the Provost’s Awards for the best behaved student, the best in practical and the best in nutrition.

Adetunji Shukurat, a graduate of Basic Nursing, emerged as the overall best graduate.

Speaking during the 27th convocation on Wednesday, the State Commissioner for Health, Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that communities in the state are served with dignity and skill by excellent nurses.

Ajetunmobi noted that the college’s reputation for excellence underscores Nigeria’s growing academic prowess.

“The graduation ceremony marks a significant milestone in the new nurse’s academic and professional journey. The graduates were trained in one of the most reputable Colleges of Nursing and Midwifery and have now joined a noble profession.

“The state government’s goal is to ensure there are enough excellent nurses to serve communities with dignity and skill,” the commissioner stated.

The wife of the Alaafin of Oyo, Abiwumi Owoade, who is an alumna of the college, urged the graduates to be agents of change in society.

Owoade challenged them “to set the pace, break barriers, and find solutions to things that hitherto had remained invisible, inaccessible, and unattainable in the rapidly changing world.

“Be a trailblazer in this noble career path you have chosen. Set the pace and break barriers. A trailblazer is a leader who summons followership by the inspiration of his life and action.”

State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Salihu Adelabu, praised the institution for its significant contributions to healthcare training, positioning Nigeria as a notable player in the field.

Meanwhile, Provost Gbonjubola Owolabi thanked parents for trusting the college, highlighting its reputation for producing skilled healthcare professionals.

She stated, “This college remains a household name in the production of middle-level manpower in the health sector, a crucial component of the mission to improve healthcare services in the state.”
