22-year-old mobbed to death over alleged motorcycle theft in Gombe
A Twenty-two-year-old man was mobbed to death on Tuesday morning in Kumo, Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State, over allegations of motorcycle theft.
According to a post shared on Thursday by security analyst Zagazola Makama on X, the victim, Daudu Ahmed of Sarkin Yaki Quarters, was attacked around 9:30 a.m. by a group of youths.
“They reportedly used machetes to inflict fatal wounds on his head and stomach,” Makama wrote.
Dahiru Ahmed, the victim’s elder brother, reported the incident about 10:15 a.m. to the Akko Divisional Police Station.
“The Divisional Police Officer and his team quickly responded and took Daudu to the General Hospital in Kumo, but he was confirmed dead upon arrival,” Makama wrote.
Two suspects, Babayo Musa and Zaidu Sani, both from Jauro Musa Quarters, have been arrested, while others involved including Sulaiman and Usama are still on the run.
During police interrogation, the arrested men admitted that Daudu took part in motorcycle snatching and was seen as a threat to the community.
The police also found and took possession of the machetes used in the attack.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
Makama added that the police are still trying to apprehend other suspects who are on the run.
