A member of the House of Representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has said President Bola Tinubu is likely unbothered by those declaring their intentions to challenge him in the 2027 general election.
Jibrin, speaking on Wednesday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, said Tinubu must be “sitting somewhere and smiling” because of the disunity among northern politicians.
“What we’ve always done, if anybody rises up in the north, we gang up to bring the person down. This is what has been happening. And I’m pretty sure those who said they are going to contest, or even to be specific, the Bola Tinubu that some are saying they are going to contest against, or defeat him, must be smiling because he can see how disunited we are,” Jibrin said.
He recalled how former Vice President Atiku Abubakar clashed with then-President Olusegun Obasanjo, partly because of opposition from northern politicians who resisted his attempt at regional leadership.
Jibrin added that former Vice President Namadi Sambo and current Vice President Kashim Shettima had also faced similar challenges from the region.
