2027: ADC Reaffirms Unity, Commitment To Atiku, Obi Coalition

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has reaffirmed its unity and commitment to the ongoing coalition of opposition parties in preparation for the 2027 general elections, dismissing recent reports suggesting internal divisions within the party.

The party welcomed the discussion for a united front against the All Progressives Congress involving former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, former presidential candidate of the Labour Party and others.

In a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, the Deputy National Secretary of the party, Comrade Nkem Ukandu, described the reports as “false narratives” being peddled by “retrogressive elements” aiming to sow discord within the ADC.

“The African Democratic Congress remains firmly united and guided by the same founding principles that have kept us strong and consistent over the years,” Ukandu said.

“Any external force attempting to disrupt our progress or sow confusion within our ranks will ultimately fail.”

Ukandu emphasized that the coalition effort is not a product of desperation, but a strategic, inclusive initiative aimed at rescuing Nigeria from what he called “years of bad governance.”

“Handshake has always been in our DNA—not out of desperation, but because we believe in inclusive governance and coalition-building,” he said.

He revealed that the decision to join the coalition was the result of extensive consultations and received unanimous endorsement from the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC).

Ukandu added that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was present as an observer during the NEC meeting held at NICON Luxury Hotel, Abuja, in 2024.

“We convened over four NEC meetings in total—all focused on solidifying our position. In some of these gatherings, coalition partners were admitted as observers, and INEC’s statutory presence reaffirmed the legitimacy of the process,” he stated.

According to him, there were no dissenting voices within the National Working Committee (NWC) during any of the deliberations, further reinforcing the party’s internal cohesion.

Reflecting on the recently concluded ADC Global Summit held on May 14, 2025, Ukandu said the event demonstrated the unity of the party across all regions.

He cited the speech by the Lagos State Chairman, George Ashiru, as particularly indicative of the broad-based support for the coalition initiative.

“Our state and zonal chairmen spoke in unison in support of the coalition. The compelling speech by George Ashiru was representative of nationwide endorsement,” he said.

Ukandu reiterated the party’s founding mission to transform Nigeria through collective effort and visionary leadership.

“ADC is focused, united, and unstoppable. No matter the political shenanigans of the APC-led government, they cannot derail this moving train,” he declared.
