A 14-year-old Mexican girl, Paloma Nicole Arellano Escobedo, has died after undergoing a clandestine breast augmentation surgery, a procedure allegedly organised by her mother’s boyfriend and hidden from her biological father.
Paloma died on September 20, 2025, in Tijuana, Mexico, after suffering severe post-surgical complications, including cardiorespiratory arrest and brain swelling.
According to reports from TMZ and AZ Central, the teenager’s father, Carlos Arellano, only discovered the truth about the operation after her funeral.
Carlos said he grew suspicious when Paloma’s death certificate, which cited cerebral edema from a respiratory illness, was issued unusually too quickly.
“Her death certificate falsely stated an illness as the cause of death in an attempt to cover up the truth,” he alleged, accusing officials of rushing the paperwork to conceal the real circumstances.
During the funeral, several relatives commented that Paloma’s chest appeared noticeably different. When Carlos requested a private moment with his daughter, he and close family members carefully examined her body.
“Sure enough, she had breast implants. We have photographs of the implants and the scars,” Carlos told investigators. He immediately demanded an autopsy to confirm his suspicions.
Authorities later identified the surgeon as Dr. Víctor Manuel, a 45-year-old plastic surgeon who owns a private clinic in Durango and is reportedly romantically involved with Paloma’s mother.
The Mexican Association of Plastic, Aesthetic, and Reconstructive Surgeons has suspended Dr. Manuel’s license while the Durango State Prosecutor’s Office investigates the case.
Durango’s Attorney General, Yadira de la Garza Fragoso, confirmed that investigators are looking into the actions of both the surgeon and the girl’s mother.
“We are investigating a probable lack of care on the part of the mother for placing a minor in a risky situation,” Fragoso said.
Carlos has accused his ex-wife and her partner of deceit and negligence, insisting that they both be prosecuted for their roles in what he called an unauthorized and dangerous surgery.
A final autopsy report is still pending as authorities continue to piece together how a 14-year-old was able to undergo such a procedure without her father’s knowledge or legal approval.
